After The Big Hunt closed (RIP), I crossed Dupont off my “going out list.” But some exploring has proved that Dupont is still worth the late-night trek. We already made a guide to the tamer side of Dupont, so here’s what to do after the sun goes down.
Grab a Cocktail:
Ease into the night with a cocktail at Residents Café. The espresso martini is impeccable if that’s the kind of night you’re trying to have. For something with a speakeasy-type vibe go to The Golden Age. It’s beautiful, cozy, and their daiquiris taste like Capri Suns. Or, if you’re looking for an amazing whiskey selection, McClellan’s Retreat is the way to go. The small basement bar fills up fast though!
See a Show:
The DC Comedy Loft at the Bier Baron hosts a comedy show every single evening with local acts and bigger names at a range of prices. Comedy Central’s Rob Ward and TikTok sensation Stef Dag are performing this month. Or, catch Dupont Underground’s monthly Drag Show with the best queens in town.

Go Dancing:
If you want to ACTUALLY dance, Cafe Citron is the spot for you. They pump out salsa and bachata bops all night for a crowd of well-dressed, sweaty people. If you want to dance but not the club-y vibes, they also offer free salsa lessons on weekdays. If you just want to bounce while holding a beer, head to Sauf Haus’ rooftop. And, of course, Decades – a core memory for any D.C. college kid – has six floors of DJ’s. Find me on the 00s floor.
Get a Late Night Munchie:
D.C. has a tragic lack of late-night food options. Luckily, most of them are located in Dupont. Surfside is one of the few 24-hour joints in the city and makes a mean quesadilla. Capital Doner is open till 2 a.m. on weekends and their doner kebab wraps hit regardless of how inebriated you are. If you’re feeling gross, Shake Shack is for you. And if you want something more substantial, Astoria DC serves up Sichuan classics and nightcaps until 2 a.m.
