Chevy Chase is a giant northwest D.C. neighborhood known for its gorgeous (and very expensive) houses, well-appointed lawns, and opinionated neighbors. But there’s enough urban development along Connecticut Ave. to keep things interesting. Careful not to confuse it with Chevy Chase, MD, its more suburban neighbor to the north.
First, Coffee
For those craving a traditional standing espresso bar, the Italian Bar has strong, reasonably priced espresso drinks as well as some of the best gelato in the city. But if you’re looking to hang out for a while, The Den Coffeehouse located under Politics & Prose has bomb lox breakfast sandwiches.
What To Do
Hone your ping pong skills at Comet Ping Pong. Or, if your hand-eye coordination is as bad as mine, skip it and head to Broad Branch Market a community grocery with baked goods and pre-prepped food. The Avalon Theatre is one of the oldest movie theaters in the DMV, showing blockbusters and indie films alike. To finish off the day, hunker down with a book in the Chevy Chase Library. The space is due for redevelopment soon and is causing some serious neighborhood debate.

What To Eat
If you want to feel like Jay-Z, then get a resy at Opal, but otherwise, we recommend checking out Rosemary’s Bistro Café, a French bistro with an amazing brunch menu. If you’re not quite hitting that Chevy Chase DINK income status, Muchas Gracias is a great casual option. The birria tacos and tres leches cake are drool-worthy.
What To Drink
The going-out options are limited, but both The Avenue and Blue 44 Restaurant are American-style pubs that boast an impressive beer list and all the classic cocktails. The Avenue even has a kid-friendly basement den. You can’t say they don’t know their audience.
