There are dozens of Pride events going on this month, but this Saturday is the main event: the Capital Pride Parade. It’s a time to break out your sexiest rainbow attire and scream Chappell Roan lyrics at the top of your lungs. Here’s how to slay the day.

The New Route:

The Pride Parade route is different this year. Instead of ending in Dupont Circle, it will go all the way down 14th Street NW and hook left on Pennsylvania Avenue NW, ending in a giant ‘80s and ’90s outdoor dance party ($5-$15 entry).

The new route means the parade won’t pass by popular viewing spots like Dupont Circle and 17th Street. However, paid viewing areas are being set up in Thomas Circle ($5 or $10), and Freedom Plaza ($25). Or, you can schlep through the 14th Street crowds with the rest of us.

The Block Party will remain in its usual spot on 17th Street.

The Logistics:

  • Pride Parade: Starts at 14th & T Streets NW at 3 p.m.and ends at Penn & 9th Street NW.
  • Pride Block Party: On 17th Street, between P and S streets, from 12 - 10 p.m.

Where To Eat:

Yes, 14th Street has endless food options, and I guarantee you won't be able to get a seat at any of them. The best bet is to grab something quick to go. But don’t make the mistake of going to the 14th Street Shake Shack, trust me, no burger is worth the chaos.

  • Red Light Pizza Bar (14th & R Streets NW): This will be crowded, but standing room and pre-made pizza mean fast service and a shaded tabletop.
  • South Block (14th & P Streets NW): These smoothie bowls slap on a hot June day, plus it’s kind of healthy, right?
  • Five Guys (14th & I Streets NW): This is far enough down the route that it's not as crowded as Shake Shack but equally delicious.
  • District Taco (14th & F Streets NW): Self-explanatory, delicious tacos, fast service, and possibly even a seat if you’re lucky.
  • Puro Gusto (14th & F Streets NW): This Italian cafe has a great grab-and-go section with sandwiches, pastries, salads, and drinks.

Where To Pee On Route:

With all that drinking (water, obviously 👀) it’s essential to plan out some pit stops before you get desperate. Here are a few spots on or close to the route you can go.

  • Malcolm X Park Public Bathrooms
  • National Museum of Art
  • Washington Monument Public Bathrooms
  • Thomas Circle Wawa
  • Cafés on route: Starbucks, Compass Coffee, Aslin, Coffee Bar, Bluestone Coffee
