Is DC Vegan Worth the Hype?

It’s DC Veg Restaurant week, which meant we had to get out and try some of the District's best plant-based spots. After hearing the excitement, we sent our team lead Priyanka Tilve to scout out DC Vegan in Dupont. Here’s the scoop.

Getting there: The sign next to the restaurant points upstairs to a casual deli-like space. But the real magic is downstairs, which is so lush and green that you feel like you're dining in a chic rainforest.

The drinks: Their drinks are super herbal. I'm talking things like pressed chlorophyll, aloe vera water, vitamin d drops, or turmeric featured in almost every drink. Not gonna lie, they taste earthy, but better than I expected. There's also a big zero-proof selection. The Queen of the Meadow was really refreshing.

Menu winners: The King Trumpet Calamari, which is actually fried mushroom with cashew parmesan, was perfection. They mimicked the squid consistency perfectly, and the flavor was delicious. The Chianti-Braised Jackfruit was rich and hearty and plated beautifully.

Skip this: The Chick'n Parm Sandwich was … okay. The fake chicken tasted, well, fake, and the sandwich was a little dry. Luckily, the cashew parmesan came to the rescue, but maybe a little too late.

DC Vegan has deals going for the rest of DC Veg Restaurant week. Tell us what you think and what we should try next!
