Happy Earth Day! Every April 22, the world dedicates the day to supporting the environmental movement, and what better way to get involved than in our own backyard? Here are seven D.C. events to celebrate and give back for every type of Washingtonian.

🗑️ For the Do-Gooders: Local Volunteer Cleanup

Multiple days and times

There are dozens of local cleanups you can join with National Capital Parks-East throughout the next few weeks. From cleaning the waterways at Kenilworth Park to removing invasive species at Anacostia Park, there is an activity for every schedule.

🛍️ For the Sustainable Shoppers: Earth Day Market

April 22, 2 - 5 p.m.

Check out this sustainable pop-up market filled with eco-friendly products and local vendors at The Mark Manhattan Laundry on Florida Ave. NW.

🧘 For the Yogis: Earth Day Island Yoga

April 22, 5:30 p.m.

City Cast DC podcast host Bridget Todd revealed this hidden gem on our Guide to April In DC episode. Island Time Bar & Grill is hosting this earth day yoga practice overlooking the Potomac, followed up by orange crushes.

🌎 For the Green Thumbs: Earth Day Plant Care

April 23, 6 p.m.

Learn basic plant care and repotting techniques to bring your apartment plant garden to life. ( Or get some urban gardening tips for free on our podcast)

🎨 For the Hobbiests: Earth Day Crafternoon

April 26, 2 p.m.

Get cozy with some sustainable crafting like fixing up a clothing item or decorating a tin can planter. All proceeds go to DC Dyke March.

🎞️ For the Cinephiles: Living Earth Festival

April 27, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

This free film festival at the American Indian Museum explores how Native communities are innovating sustainable solutions for the well-being of their homelands.

🪧 For the Activists: DC Climate Week

April 28 – May 2, times vary

This week-long series of workshops, panels, exhibitions, and networking events is taking place all across D.C. Participants can engage with policymakers, learn from climate scientists, and check out new sustainable technologies.
