I think of myself as a bit of a diner connoisseur, if you will. Something about cloudy winter days just makes me crave diner coffee and greasy eggs, maybe even some corn beef hash if I’m feeling indulgent. Here are the best spots I’ve found in D.C. What are your favorites?

LJ Flip It Diner (Columbia Heights) – This is a hidden gem, and it's where I go if I want something a little more ~ elevated ~. This tiny spot feels like you're dining in someone's kitchen. It has insanely good food, generous portions, and cheap prices. Seats go quickly though! Try the: huevos rancheros and homemade biscuits.

Jimmy T’s Place
(Capitol Hill) – Jimmy T’s holds a special place in the neighborhood (and my heart). Located in an old Capitol Hill row home, this family-owned joint is what every diner should be. Sit down to coffee in a collectible diner mug, watch your eggs get fried, and chat with the owner, all for less than $10. Cash only. Try the: pancakes and home fries.

Bob & Edith's Diner
(Crystal City) – It doesn’t get more retro than this. Complete with silver siding, checkered walls, and leather chairs, this 24-hour diner is always packed. Try the: walnut or pecan waffles.

The DINER
(Adams Morgan) – Open 24 hours on the weekend, this AdMo standby holds up just as well at 3 a.m. as it does for brunch. Try the: eggs benedict and classic milkshake.

Heat Da Spot
(Park View) – Not your typical diner, but this Ethiopian spot has a huge menu with all the American classics, plus a killer Ethiopian-style breakfast and sambosas. The owners are incredibly friendly to boot. Try the: coffee and chechebsa.
